Biography

Angelikie (Angel) Bazigou is an actress and singer with extensive experience on stage, television, and in the recording studio. She graduated from The Greek National Theatre School of Drama, where she was taught by some of the most important figures in the history of the Greek Theatre such as Mary Aroni, Nikos Tzoyias, Eleni Hatziargiri, and Andigoni Valakou. Angelikie has also worked with Manos Hatzidakis, A. Vouyiouklaki, Smaroula Yiouli, Yiorgos Kimoulis, Th. Livaditis, L. Kilaidonis, K. Voutsas, and others. After her graduation from the Musician’s Institute in Hollywood, where she was awarded “the most outstanding singer of the year,” Angelikie performed with jazz musicians at various venues in the Los Angeles area. She also received her Jazz Performance degree in Ethnomusicology from UCLA, where she graduated summa cum laude and received the Herp Alpert scholarship twice.

Angelikie has been taught by world famous artists such as Kenny Burrell, Barbara Morrison, and Jerald Wilson. She started her professional career at the age of 8, winning first prize in the Greek National Singing Competition for children which led her to her own TV show for several years in Greece. In Los Angeles, she also appeared in many productions including the UCLA Handmade, Hollywood Bowl Summer Sounds, Groundswell sponsored by Loyola Marymount University, and the My Beowulf production sponsored by Cal State University in collaboration with cellist Bob Een. With the Hellenic Group Theater, she appeared in the Greek comedy THE STORK BRINGS THE BABIES. Today, Angelikie performs and teaches vocal technique as she had previously done in Greece at the Kimoulis School of Drama, the Theatron Allagon, the Athens Cultural Center, and the Ergastiri Krouston. She is now combining her Greek influences with American Jazz on her own recording project as a composer, lyricist, and performer.
